BESTThe Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology (BEST) Commission

The Bahamas Environment, Science & Technology Commission also known as the BEST Commission was established in 1994. The BEST Comission manages the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements and reviews environmental impact assessments and environmental management plans for development projects within The Bahamas.

After more than thirty-five years of serving The Bahamas, first as a two-year institution, then as a four-year degree-granting College, COB expects to become The University of The Bahamas. As it transitions to university status, the institution will continue to deliver excellent undergraduate teaching while developing new undergraduate and graduate programmes, increasing research and innovation activities, and focusing its work in areas crucial to national development.

The Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation (BREEF) takes action to protect crucial marine habitats and species. The sea comprises about 95% of The Bahamas’ geographical area. Moreover, with 2200 miles of coastline, our marine environment is a significant part of our natural and cultural heritage.Healthy marine ecosystems enhance our biodiversity, influence our cultural expressions and provide economic benefits through our tourism, fisheries, maritime and education sectors.

The Bahamas National Trust was created by an Act of Parliament in 1959 to build and manage the national park system of the Bahamas. Possibly the only non-governmental organization in the world charged with such a responsibility. The “Trust” as it is known seeks to conserve and protect the natural resources of The Bahamas, through stewardship and education for present and future generations.

The Bahamas Information Services Department (BIS) was formed by an act of Parliament in 1974. The mission of the agency is to ensure effective communications between the government and the people of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas by providing a central channel through which may flow information to and inquiries from local, regional and international media and the public.
